Virtuoso Travel Week, the largest and most exciting travel show of the year, and those of us in the Virtuoso Network look forward every year to August and descending upon Las Vegas for a week! The purpose of Virtuoso Travel week is connection. We spend the week connecting and socializing with hotel owners and general managers, tour operators, and on sites (the on-the-ground contacts in-country), cruise line executives, service providers, and other luxury advisors. We do it for six days overtaking the Bellagio, the Vdara, and the Aria hotels. Not only do we “speed date” with 4-minute appointments for upwards of 300 partners meeting each advisor, but we have another 850 events, network lunches, dinners, award ceremonies, cocktail parties, and even a gala. It is crazy and wonderful, where we shop for one-of-a-kind experiences for our clients and find out the truly spectacular properties that are out there. It is energizing and productive, and we end the week exhausted but exhilarated!
Clearly, this year was a bit different,
the conference was conducted virtually. But even so, over four thousand suppliers and advisors connected over five days with 1:1 appointments, valuable professional development and destination courses, connecting and reminding us of why we are so passionate about this business. We even had some social media engagement to keep the story going and have a little fun with our quarantined status.
This year was particularly poignant as we were able to connect with our partners from all over the world and talk travel, and how to keep moving forward despite the pandemic. There is not one of us who has not been touched by the events of this spring, and our passion for finding our way back is palpable.
My takeaway has been that we all KNOW travel will be back; it is only a matter of when. In the meantime, dreaming may be the order of the day.
I have to say; I am absolutely giddy at the end of a Virtuoso Travel Week (even a virtual one!) with all the fabulous properties I have seen and the unique experiences I have had the pleasure to hear about.
